Iona welcomes Brad Gold as General Manager

Fynbos beauty on Iona

I bought Iona (Geelbeksvlei) as an apple farm in June 1997 and planted our first vineyard in 1998. The development of this unique property has been my sole endeavour, joy and passion for the last 21 years, supported and made possible by the most wonderful team in the vineyards, cellar, marketing and administration.

Over the last year or so I have been giving considerable thought to the future and the next stage of our business and our desire to see it become better, prosper and continue to provide employment and opportunity to our workers and staff alike.

We have very special vineyards, which with age continue to produce high quality grapes and in many ways I believe the best is yet to come.

Iona has always had a flat, open door reporting structure with the aim of:

  • Producing exceptional wines.
  • Providing high levels of service and value to our customers.
  • Continuing to grow our own grapes with due respect to the environment and people.
  • To be creative and responsive to changing conditions in the market place and wine world at large.
  • For the whole team to operate in a relaxed, happy state to maximise the potential of our beautiful farms.

Taking Iona to the 'next level'

To lead the business to the next level in an exciting, challenging and fast changing environment will require different skills to mine and I have therefore decided to appoint Brad Gold as General Manager whilst moving to a supportive "Chairman" role, working with him and the team to take us to the next level.

Brad has an excellent track record, starting as a vineyard worker, holds an MBA from UCT, the youngest to qualify as a Cape Wine Master and has held senior marketing positions in the South African wine industry and is well equipped to fill the role, a logical development in his career.

Brad will start in his new role after he has handed over appropriately in his current position. We look forward to him joining the Iona team.
